Discover Ernen
The village Ernen fascinates with its extraordinarily beautiful appearance. The traditional construction anchored in the region is very well preserved in Ernen and was awarded with the Henri Louis Wakker Prize in 1979 for its extraordinary cultural heritage.
Special buildings can be found all over the village. The parish church of Ernen, which is dedicated to St. George and stands out due to its beautiful frescoes and handicrafts, is prominent and characteristic of the village. The foundation stone of the church was laid in the 11th century and maintained continuously. In some cases, changes were reversed to take the cultural heritage into account as much as possible. The church also has a lot to offer acoustically, which is why the music weeks from June to September take place in this wonderful setting. Other buildings are, for example, the Tellenhaus and right next door the former prison on the «Hängert» / the village's main square. But also the typical Valais stables on slate slabs and the Michel house are witnesses of the village history. Ernen was first mentioned in writing around 1215 under the name Aragon and was once the political and religious center of the region. A guided tour of the village can be booked through the local Tourist Office / Binntal Nature Park website.
